Ryan is the Director of the Curtin Centre for Optimisation and Decision Science and the Head of Mathematics and Statistics at Curtin University. Ryan’s expertise lies in modelling and solving complex optimisation challenges that involve numerous decision levers, multiple conflicting trade-offs, and large, disparate data sets. He has over 9 years’ experience working on consulting and collaborative research and development programs across the mining, agriculture, oil and gas, and manufacturing sectors. Some of the companies that Ryan has worked with include Lynas, Woodside Energy, Linkforce Engineering, Rio Tinto, BHP, Roy Hill, INX Software, and Vekta Automation. Ryan holds a PhD in applied mathematics and was the winner of the 2020 Christopher Heyde Medal from the Australian Academy of Science, the 2019 JH Michell Medal from the Australian Mathematical Society, and the 2014 West Australian Young Scientist of the Year Award.
Fabrizio is a control engineer who joined Curtin University in 2016. He is currently the Deputy Director and a Senior Research Fellow in the Centre for Optimisation and Decision Science at Curtin University. Prior to joining Curtin, Fabrizio worked at the University of Brescia, Italy. Fabrizio has published extensively in the leading international journals in control and automation, and he has worked with various companies in both Australia and Europe, including Lynas, Whirlpool Europe, Roborigger, Rio Tinto, Turboden, and FuelFix. Fabrizio holds a PhD in control engineering from the University of Brescia and his expertise includes advanced process control, tracking control, dynamic inversion input regulation, and anesthesia control.
Ritu leads consulting and research projects involving applied statistics, predictive analytics, and data science for government and industries across resources, defence, sports, and local governments. She has developed software for efficient reserves estimation, presented industry-focused short courses and conducted statistical audits for various organisations.
Lorenzo works in systems and control theory. He has secured several prestigious Australian government research grants and published in various leading journals. His current research focuses on geometric and optimal control, multidimensional signals and systems, and fractional/diffusive systems.
Qun holds a PhD in applied mathematics. She has broad experience in developing numerical algorithms for real-world applications, and she has worked with various companies including Woodside Energy, Fleetcare, and FuelFix. Qun is the primary algorithm designer for the APCS simulation engine. She lectures computational mathematics at Curtin University
Elham’s expertise lies in the use of mathematical and quantitative methods for optimising complex systems. She has experience in building optimisation solutions and tools in applications such as oil and gas, mining, agriculture, and education with a focus on scheduling and logistics.
Sarang works on real-life, large-scale optimisation problems involving mixed integer programming. He has worked in leading product and service companies in India to develop optimisation products and solutions for transportation, logistics, supply chain, and procurement.
Vinesha specialises in optimisation, approximation theory and their applications in neural networks and deep learning. She has received several prestigious awards from the Australian Mathematical Society including the 2020 BH Neumann prize and the 2022 Maryam Mirzakhani Award.
Shuang is passionate about multi-disciplinary research collaboration and international articulation programs. Her research interests include stochastic processes and their applications to engineering and science. As a lecturer, Shuang teaches foundation mathematics, actuarial science, industrial optimisation, and data science.
Andrew is a Statistician with a previous background in experimental design and statistical analysis of agricultural research trials. His knowledge and experience extends across a range of areas including spatial statistics, linear mixed models, experimental design, robust statistics, cluster analysis and outlier detection. Through his career he has been involved with a number of research publications and data-driven web tools which assist in real world applications for research, industry and government aligned stakeholders. Andrew has a friendly demeanour and a keen passion and enthusiasm for statistical consulting and problem solving.
